PHIL 104 World Religions

An introductory survey of selected teachings, practices and institutions of major Eastern and Western religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam as well as the religions of Africa, the Americas, and other religions from across the globe. The students will establish connections between the historical developments of culture(s) and their religion(s) and study the diachronic development of these religions, focusing on the origins of and forces that shaped each tradition along with the rituals, practices, and symbols.
